I m told that what I m writing doesn t fit
The modern styles and current aspiration,
And that this kind of writing doesn't meet
Criteria of public expectations.
I learnt to write from masters of the past,
Being driven by worshipping timeless beauty...
Alas, that beauty ceased to be a must,
And classics as a form is disresputed.
The modern poets hardly follow a form,
Their sentences are dubious and fuzzy,
And modern critics, omnivorous worms,
Praise every line as suitable for grazing.
Untalented promoted by ungifted,
And look where modern poetry has drifted.
