When leaving Russia, I had left the ship

When leaving Russia, I had left the ship
That was half-sunk, unsuitable for living;
Unable to save it, I could only weep
And try to find another place for new beginning...

After departure, I observ'd the change
From rags to riches, in some fifteen years;
It took a leader, efforts and avenge
To wake and nourish the lethargic Russian bear.

Now, prosperous and strengthened by trouble,
The country celebrates its new revival:
Its fairs and churches, full of gold and marble,
Are joy for Russians, awe for the rivals.

Although my generation has been lost,
It's good to see that Russia's pass'd the worst.
