Romantic love and sweet imagination
Are hardly suitable in day-to-day routine:
They contradict the mortgage obligations
And office hours, with their dreary spin.
Without love, life's better organised:
It's steady, measured, with perfect nightly sleep...
But when in love, heart's shaken and capsized,
Emotions are disturb'd, confus'd and deep.
This complication of the settl'd existence,
Akin to an obsession or disease,
Is better to observe at certain distance
In order to preserve one's mental peace.
Yet, love is so exciting and supreme:
Lost sleep and sad emotions - it'll redeem!
