Self-centred and often too intense

Self-centred and often too intense,
I'm burden for myself, not mention'd others.
Too often losing reasoning and sense,
When trouble attacks, injustice gathers.

It's tiresome and useless anyway,
But temperament is a given feature;
It may recede or act with some delay, --
And still remains the same unhappy creature.

I'm saying this and feel a slight relief,
As if by saying faults become removed;
I know that its lasting would be brief,
And peace of mind, again, would soon be ruin'd.

The pacifying power of art
Brings, with new verse or thought, a fresh restart.
