It's simple and short, with sharpness of a knife
All the excessive words in verse reducing.
Art, blended with philosophy and life,
Is what the English sonnet is producing.
It has three parts, it's able to summarise,
Its judgement isn't for timid or faint-hearted;
It may appear lyrical or wise,
Its music is admirable and mighty.
It lets one to distil the pure art;
As a form, it is demanding and possessive.
It's never practical in any part,
Yet, it's the ultimate artistic vessel.
I delve in it, indulge myself in beauty ---
While it allows me to be unmuted.
