Jeb s Collection Guests

When  Nick  decided  to  marry  Mary, he  didn't  expect  her  to have  lots  of  close  and  distant  relatives.  It  turned  out  that  their  visits  to  his  home  were  more  than  infrequent. They  would  throw  their  personal  belongings  here  and  there. In  this,  Mary  had  the  same  character  trait... She  just entered a  room  and  it  seemed  to  become  more  cluttered. So by  the  end of  a  guests'  stay,  it  was  impossible  to  tell  which  thing belonged  to  the  guests  and  which  to  the  hosts. Nick tried  not  to become  concerned  about  that,  but  after  his  three  best  ties disappeared, he  lost  his  good  patent  leather  shoes, and  grandpa's mattress,  he  decided  enough  was  enough.
The  guests  seemed  to  be  like  cockroaches,  they  were everywhere.  You  found  them  in  the  kitchen  about  to  devour your sandwiches in  the  fridge, or sipping  on  your coke. You  would find  them  in  your  bedroom  browsing  through  your  family  album, etc.  Pretty  soon, they  didn't  even  ask  Nick's  permission  to  use his  car. The  last  straw  was  when  these  guests  began  inviting guests  of  their  own.  Nick  argued  about  this  with  his  wife  but that  didn't  solve  anything. One  evening,  after  a  gang  of  guests  came  to  visit, Nick created  a  scandal.  He  was  breaking  furniture,  screaming,  tearing his  hair  out,  and  swearing  in  German.  (Nick  came  from  the Southern  Hill  Country  of  Texas  where  they  have  a  large German  population,  and  while  growing  up,  he'd  picked  up  a  few  choice curses).
Hearing  the  ruckus,  a  friend  of  Nick's  who  worked  at  a psychiatric  ward  in  the  local  hospital  called  an  ambulance. They  arrived,  put  Nick  into  a  straight  jacket,  gave  him  a tranquilizer,  and  led  him  away.
 Though  things  seemed  to  have  settled  down,  the  tranquilizers had  little  effect  on Nick's  state  of  mind  and  with  the  help  of  a  few of  the  other  mental  patients,  Nick  escaped  and returned  that  night.  The  other  patients  complained  that  Nick was  disturbing  their  peace  of  mind. It worked,  however,  for Nick.  All  the  guests  in  his  house made  a  run  for  it,  and  never  returned.
