What does the attic have in store...

English version of "Что там, на старом чердаке" http://www.stihi.ru/2016/12/25/11362

What does the attic have in store -
Beneath the dusty plaid of ages?
Who’s grumbling to revive the lore
That’s dormant on primeval pages?

He’s rustling paper in the chests
And leafing through decrepit letters,
Dividing ashes for the guests
Like sweets I shared for worse and better.

A box of icy rainbow drops -
For you, for me, for Kitty surely.
Why don’t you like to do a swap
You - in the attic lit so poorly?

But he’s just sighing “oh” and “ah”,
His thick bearskin subduing whisper,
His heavy feet creating pas
Towards the truth so vague and twisty.

Across the floor of creaky boards,
Another step avoiding corners -
Someone who’s touched the winter chords
And kept me up until the morning.
