Прибой. Брожу вдоль берега один
И наблюдаю: волн ревущих стая,
Смарагдовым оттенком отливая
Рвёт в клочья саван пепельных седин.

Собрав в единый гребень сеть морщин,
Девятый вал, на берег набегая,
Златя песок от края и до края,
Швыряет волны из морских глубин.

Вот так в твоих величественных ритмах,
Слепой поэт, английский Меонид*,
Мне слышится волнение морское.

И непрестанно в музыке и рифмах
Твоих стихов душа поёт навзрыд, –
Девятый вал не ведает покоя.
