The modern world requires many skills,
The most important one is "to be useful".
One has to learn how to convince and drill,
How to promote oneself, remaining truthful.
I saw some strange effects of this pursuit:
Those fools successful in commanding crowds,
Cold-hearted formalists appearing sweet,
And bureaucrats, of their little power proud.
The human bunch is an amazing zoo,
As sinister at work as they're at leisure.
They do not want what may be just and true,
They seek importance, easy gains and pleasures.
I have to follow them, surviving life,
Pretend to have the same content and strife.
