Reincarnation

There’s no other choice, and my soul shall fly
To my child-body,
And I would like to know
Who is my child home?
One day I may know
That it is Hovhannes or Ara.

But before that I look back confusedly
At the dark roads,
And my lazy glance leans:
From the mounts to the abysses,
From the abysses to the valleys,
From the valleys to the mounts,
From the mounts to heavens,
And I get into the harness
Of three non-existing birds.

And I purge myself without a purgatory,
And I make myself powerful without a weapon,
And I make myself tender without a speck,
And I warm myself without a flame,
And I fill myself with mercy without a dictation,
And I ooze myself without jealousy,
And I make myself proud without being stirred.

Who has been I and who are you?
O you, my part, my whole,
My mortal
From the eternal, you my earth-born.
