Lovers of Sumpa

In 1971 archaeologists found a fascinating burial site of a man
and a woman in tender embrace in Saint Elena formerly called Sumpa.
Another interesting fact was that stones were found in
and around their skeletons almost as if they had been stoned
or it had something to do with a ritual.
From then onwards the skeletons were named the Lovers of Sumpa.
Their affectionate embrace resonates across the millennia.
The Lovers of Sumpa Museum is the only such
archaeological museum in the world dedicated to lovers.
They are known as the Romeo and Juliet of Ecuador.



Well, History doesn’t know those names,
We hardly can imagine their faces,
The land is situated far away,
In the Pacific, in the azure places.

For thousands of years, forgotten, far below,
The Earth’s been keeping secret of the love…
He and She without saying a word
Made the whole world to speak aloud…

That 20th century discovered many plots,
Deciphered much of mystery and covered,
What Ecuador kept, no guess will come –
The find was called, for sure, the Lovers of Sumpa.

In gentle loving they completed their life,
And none of them had doubts, at that moment,
That they would have a rest a bit, a while,
Their plot of love passed to contemporary story.

The lace of love, the stones here and there
This picture has strange patterned bones –
What if they were trapped within a rock fall?
Was it their tribe that made them to be stoned?

The answer doesn’t exist. And should we interrupt
That long sweet dream of Romeo and Juliet?
Unsolved mysteries have special meaning and style…
They do not want our easy snap decisions.
