The Last One
The sun that drives away the rain,
You twist my soul again and yet again,
But I’m still yours to reign.
Be gone, and come back in my arms,
I’ll fall apart, yet nothing harms
Me, unless you’re gone, and my heart numbs
To all the world’s alarms.
You are the one that’s truly mine;
When you’re near, it’s all sunshine;
No memories of “auld lang syne”
Come, unbidden, on my mind.
Yet you can burn, not just give warm:
You let me touch your gentle form,
And then bring down a violent storm
Upon my head; you are transformed.
Transformed, but still I recognize
The love behind those blazing eyes,
The love that let my spirit rise
And soar above the seven skies.
For that, whatever our endeavours,
I will be with you and beside you. Forever.
