Abyss

Pulled to arms against your will
On your feet before the dawn
Fingers numbed by endless drill
Heart not numb but simply gone.

Born for battle, raised for war
Fathers' torch within your grip.
Where's the dream you could adore
And the scapegoat you could whip?

You put up a wall of skulls
Of your nemeses long gone
Nothing but the hungry gulls
Witness how you are withdrawn.

And the scream you fill with anguish
Destined not to fill the breach
Echo weakly as they languish
Never to be heard again.
