Стрекоза и муравей. The Grasshopper and the Ant
Singing each beautiful summer day.
But lo before he turned in place,
Winter stared him in the face.
Cold the empty field became
Gone the days of fun and games
When beneath each verdant leaf
Waited meal and hearth’s relief.
All had passed with winter’s chill
Need and hunger rear their heads
Grasshopper’s singing finally still
To whom do you think he treads.
On an empty stomach for to sing
With his spirits at an end
To the ant he drags his wing:
“Don’t forsake me, dearest friend!”
Let me build up my reserves
Till the Spring, do not refuse,
Food and comfort I could use.
“My dear friend, I find it queer:
Did you work at all this year?”
Asks of him the busy ant.
If we only had the time.
In our fields of softest grass –
Partying the time did pass,
So much so, that I got dizzy”.
“Oh, so you…” – “I sang and partied
All the Summer, I was busy”.
“So you sang? My, what a tizzy!
Now go get the dancing started!”
