Водились русские блины;

Два раза в год они говели;

Любили круглые качели,

Подблюдны песни, хоровод;
A round dance and drinking songs;
В день Троицын, когда народ,
On day of Pentecost when folks
Зевая, слушает молебен,
Did listen to a public prayer,
Умильно на пучок зари
Being sweetly on the beam of dawn
Они роняли слезки три;
Did drop they tears a few not more;
Им квас как воздух был потребен,
For them kvass needed was as air,
И за столом у них гостям
And at the table their guests
Носили блюды по чинам.
Were served with dishes under ranks.
