Когда в лихие года пахнет народной бедой
When in dashing years did of people’s trouble once smell,

Тогда в полуночный час тихий неброский
Then at midnight time that was quiet and most keen

Из леса выходит старик
Appeared from a forest old man

А вглядись - он совсем не старик
Or rather he’s not an old man,

А напротив, совсем молодой - красавец Дубровский
On the contrary he was a young and handsome Dubrovsky.

Проснись моя Кострома, вставай Саратов и Тверь
He said: wake up Kostroma, arise Saratov and Tver,

Не век же нам мыкать беду и плакать о хлебе
Not age just we should trouble have and cry for a day bread.

Дубровский берет аэроплан, Дубровский взлетает наверх
Dubrovsky did take airplane, Dubrovsky did soar to the sky

И летает над грешной землей, и пишет, и пишет:
And flied over a sinful earth long and did write, and did write:

Не плачь, Маша, я здесь
Don’t cry, Masha, I'm here.

Не плачь, солнце взойдет
Don’t cry, the sun will rise.

Не прячь от Бога глаза
Don’t hide from God always eyes,

А то как он найдет нас
But then how he’ll find us.

Небесный град Иерусалим
A God’s city Jerusalem

Нам светит сквозь холод и лед
Is shining to us through the ice

И вот он стоит вокруг нас
And here that is standing around

И ждет нас, и ждет нас
And waiting for us just.

Он бросил свой меч и свой щит, швырнул в канаву наган
He’d given up his sword and shield and his revolver as well.

Он понял, что некому мстить и радостно дышит
He’d realized, should not revenge, and then his life was light.

В тяжелый для родины час над нами летит его аэроплан
But in time that for homeland’s hard is flying up his airplane,

Красивый как иконостас, и пишет, и пишет:
That’s beautiful like masterpiece, and writing, and writing:

Не плачь, Маша, я здесь
Don’t cry, Masha, I'm here.

Не плачь, солнце взойдет

Не прячь от Бога глаза
