Saving My Dreams
Dawn break and morning calm
And one last dream for me!
And may there come no harm
From this unruffled sea,
But such a wind as rising rises fast,
Too fatal for my harboured ship
When that which beat it in the vast
Is gotten on the hip.
Sunrise over the creek
And after that the light!
And may there be no words to speak
When I embrace her tight.
For since against a world of make-believe
Reality can set no devil’s charm,
I go where she pulls me by the sleeve
To save my dreams from harm.
