Chick Webb – a gifted jazz drummer, bandleader, musician.
His health led him to play music to cope with his condition.
Chick chose drums, pursuing it with determination, passion.
In his short life span he had become true musical sensation.

Webb had evolved as player, leader and mentor for a singer.
Ella Fitzgerald was his discovery, her popularity didn’t linger.
Chick made her leading vocalist in his music orchestra, band.
“First King of Swing” developed his performing style & trend.

Without ability to read music, Webb yet achieved virtuosity.
He never limited his gift & skill, maintained creative curiosity.
His will, persistence, consistent effort, discipline didn’t switch.
Chick had accomplished triumph of jazz interpretation, niche.

Webb earned much recognition, praise, acclaim, appreciation.
To audience he was a “real deal,” bringing to music innovation.
Chick moved toward success, mastery, finesse and versatility.
He was an open-minded person, exploring world of possibility.

February 10th - birthday of Chick Webb, let’s think of him today.
He was one of a kind – professionals & audience could/can say.
We still listen to his music, thinking of him in our heart and mind.
Webb is imprinted in history of jazz, the memory of him is fond.
