Leonard Cohen - Boogie Street
Бред, да... )
O Crown of Light, O Darkened One,
I never thought we’d meet.
You kiss my lips, and then it’s done:
I’m back on Boogie Street.
A sip of wine, a cigarette,
And then it’s time to go.
I tidied up the kitchenette;
I tuned the old banjo.
I’m wanted at the traffic-jam.
They’re saving me a seat.
I’m what I am, and what I am,
Is back on Boogie Street.
And O my love, I still recall
The pleasures that we knew;
The rivers and the waterfall,
Wherein I bathed with you.
Bewildered by your beauty there,
I’d kneel to dry your feet.
By such instructions you prepare
A man for Boogie Street.
O Crown of Light, O Darkened One…
So come, my friends, be not afraid.
We are so lightly here.
It is in love that we are made;
In love we disappear.
Tho’ all the maps of blood and flesh
Are posted on the door,
There’s no one who has told us yet
What Boogie Street is for.

Well-written, but this whole bdsm business is not really my thing. ))

You just started reading the book and already throwing out acronyms I have no clue about.. )))))
I'm curious in what language you are reading in. As I understand, the book has been translated in other languages. I actually wanted to peruse a couple of pages in Russian, just to see if something got lost in the translation...but never got around to doing so. Actually, I think I was the last one, among my circle of friends to start reading it (after it took the States by storm). Truthfully, I only read book I and II and never got around to reading the last one because someone spoiled it for me by telling me how it ends.
I don't think I ever came across such [explicitly erotic] writing. I remember feeling butterflies in my stomach..lower part ), when my eyes came across the 'daring' lines for the very first time. Once I got over that experience, the next time it was being described, it wasn't as shocking (I guess just like anything else in life... )
Then, it was really just getting into the story and I suppose like any other woman reading this book, wondering...here is a man, who can have ANY woman...why her and would it last...
She of course was very therapeutic for him.. (in many ways).. ))) but what really got me fascinated was the person, who wrote the book.
I actually read up on her.. )
What can I say... I don't go around promoting it, although it may seem that way.. ) nor do I have to. It seems to be on everyone's lips these days. The cast was done because of the theme and I couldn't help but think of Grey as the main for my cast in order to partake and support the COO's that chose this particular topic. It just happened.
Don't 'torture' yourself reading the book.. ))) I can do you the same favor, by telling you how it ends.
Now, as far as Leonard's song... you did a terrific job, as always, with your translation. Maybe I shouldn't have posted the cast, just so that people could hear the song, it can be pulled up on youtube. I honestly just wanted to bring you something, being that you are always such a great host! )
So, listen! On a different note... I just discovered a new Israeli chanel [9]. All programs are in Russian with Hebrew subtitles. I wonder if you get that direct and if so, in what language.
Just finished watching [Иллюзия счастья, мелодрама сериал]..an oldie 2013, but on this newly discovered channel 9.
I find myself gravitating more to it now than channel 1. Maybe because it's something new... )
It's movies weekend, with popcorn and hot chocolate (with marshmallows)... being that we got quite a bit of snow... ))))))

I found the book online in Russian. You can check it out here. http://readbooks.me/books/?name=50-ottenkov-serogo
Finished reading it last night, though I confess I skipped a couple of pages here and there. All and all nice, the erotic scenes are written beautifully. Perhaps I would've enjoyed some of them them more if I were into this whole domination/submission thing (like the flogging episode, for example). About some nine years ago I was seeing a girl who was into this stuff (getting handcuffed, slapped, etc), and I rolled along because she liked it but personally I never really got the point of it all. But I guess different stokes for different folks. )
After reading the book though, I see why you picked "A Thousand Kisses Deep".Fits nicely, indeed. Thanks for the link, again.
Had no idea you get channel 9 in US. ) That's how ithey broadcast it here too, in Russian with Hebrew subtitles. But there is very little original Israeli programming in there, other than the news, mostly Russian movies and series. Then again, maybe it have changed since I last watched it. Nowdays all I watch is a lot of Barney the Dinosaur and cartoons with perhaps some Family Guy inbetween, if I'm lucky. )) Do you have any sort of similar channels over there, I mean US-made, but in Russian?
Movies, popcorn, hot chocolate and snow outside sounds perfect. Enjoy your weeked. )

You've provided the e-book with same ease as my friends the hard copy. I feel like it's 'haunting' me at this point..! ))))
Yes, we are talking about the same channel. You've described it accurately. I just never came across it before. Barney the Dinosaur! Now that brings back memories. My daughter's favorite character, until she met the Little Mermaid. Every year, we had to take her to Florida, so she could see Barney and sing: "I Love You, You Love Me.."! Now, I will shamefully admit that "Family Guy" is something that my now, "grown kids" like to catch, as well. How times change...
Alik just got a new box with over 300 Russian channels. You know I will be busy..right! )))))
Thanks, Gene...you always manage to put a smile on my face!

Easy read, good story, quite a bit of symbolism, which is what I love most in books, not to mention metaphors. But most important of all...it's about LIFE...!
You'll have a teenager before you know it and of course, there's no guide to raising one. We were teenagers once, but in a "different era" )
I try to keep an open mind. To me, the most important thing is to keep communication open. I want them to know that they can tell me anything and not be afraid to do so. I try to guide gently, without dictating, but it's not easy, when I see that they are about to make a "mistake." But if there's one thing I've learned is that, our children will have to make their own mistakes, no matter what. We, as parents, will not be able to always safe guard and prevent what has to happen for them on [their] path.
That's the toughest part. Each heart matures in its own way and in its own time.
I didn't know at 19 what I knew in my 30s. And that's the purpose of LIFE. Each person needs to go through his path, making necessary mistakes to learn and to grow...
A Book about love, death, despair, separation and rebirth is always one that leaves a mark and a lasting impression...
Good choice.. thank you! Enjoyed it... )

I kind of sort of do have a teenager right now, my gf's son. Turned 17 a couple of days ago. But he's a good kid, no trouble at all. If Jasmine turns out to be like him, attitude-wise, it will be all smooth sailing all through her teenage years. Time will tell, anyway.

Perhaps because you could have mentioned any other line, but you brought up the one, that did strike a chord. I actually stopped to re-read it a couple of times because I like the rain and the feelings that are associated with it.
To me, rain is - renewal. I always feel like it tries to wash the Earth off all sins, giving it/us another chance to make things right....here... and now.
What were the odds that you were going to bring it up, for me to think about it once more... It's 'little' things like this that makes me believe that life is full of miracles and that nothing is by chance... (i.e. people who cross our path, words we say, words we hear, symbols all around us, our names, numbers that we see being repeated, professions we chose, etc. etc. etc... nothing is by chance).
So you have a teenager, as well! ))))) How cool is that?! It should be easier in a sense with Yasi, because you kind of started from the other end! )))))
So, by the time she becomes a teenager, you're already a pro!!! )
Although parenting is a two-way street...we teach them, they teach us! )))
I'm happy to learn that she has an older brother! Really, really cool!
PS
I read the book in English.. )

I do like rain as well. You come to like it when you're in a freakin' desert where it's scorching hot most of the time and it rains maybe 2 weeks a year, if you're lucky. The best parts though are probably the rainbow and the smell of the moist soil afterwords.
Having a teenaged kid around is pretty cool, I guess. It's mostly playing video games, eating pizza and discussing anime. Could've been worse. ))
And your children are how old?
I'll address "Someday" here too, if that's okay. I actually enjoyed the translation, and the song you picked for the playcast fits, too.
You've raised some good questions in your reply. From a guy's POV, not asking a girl you like out may come out of fear of being rejected and humiliated. That's a huge blow to one's ego and it may take a long time to recover.
Or perhaps a guy may think the girl he likes is out of his league and even if she agrees to start going out with him, he may not be able to live up to her standarts and expectations and get dumped eventually, so he decides not to bother with it at all. Or, perhaps, the girl is looking to start a serious realtionship and a guy just wants to get in her pants (or the other way around, but I'm talking from a guy's POV now). So even though he likes her, he knows she wants more than just a fling and that's more than he can or is willing to commit to. So, he does not make a move.
I'm sure from a girl's POV having a guy try to woo her sounds sexy, but I'll assure you it's a two-way street. A girl hitting on you and asking you out is a turn on (after initial shock passes :P). Everyone likes to feel desired. )

Miles idolized her and through [loving] eyes, flaws are invisible...
BTW...she was pretty 'forthcoming' now that I think about it.. )
I have a lot of respect for how you are protecting the Holy Land... think about it all the time. When we went to visit my cousins in Tel Aviv (years ago), to celebrate Claire's first birthday, I remember my shock seeing rifles under the bed.. a natural way of life for them... May G-d keep you safe!
Claire is the oldest (Spring baby) will be turning 22 in April, the boys are in June...19 and 16. ) I'm one of those women, who likes telling her age because it doesn't correlate or reflect on me (inside or out).. )))))
When I get goofy, Aron (the 16 y.o.)... goes..."ma, how old are you?!" Really?! )))))) I love them so much....! )
They are 'unreal' and I'm not just saying that because they are my kids. As a matter of fact, because they are mine, the bar of standards/expectations is raised even higher... But they are truly amazing. Each one in their own special way. 3 kids, same dad, same mom, same household, but are all so different...starting from physical appearance (brown, hazel, blue eyes...to extremely unique personalities! ))))
Have a funny thing to tell you real quick. When Aron was born with blue eyes.. the husband of one of our friend couples, kept asking, "but how come he has blue eyes, I don't get it..." And Alik and I kept replying...must be the milk man. Two years later, that couple had a son...guess what? With blue eyes! ))))))
Dude must have been even more paranoid! ))))) Life's funny that way! Love it!
Thanks for your kind and supportive words with regard to my work on "Someday." Appreciate it. Re-read my response and OMG, so many typos...sorry... I reply from my phone...it's like texting fast and mistakes are clearly inevitable.
But you still get me! )
You've extended my list of additional reasons as to why or why not...thanks...always interesting to hear it from the guy's point of view.. )
Cause G-d knows, "Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars!" ))))).. and yet, as you astutely pointed out, we are all similar in -wanting to be desired/loved...

Since you've mentioned age, by a few pics you have on your page, and your demeanor, I assumed you were in your early- to mid-thirties.)
You've picked nice names for your kids! (Aron happens to be my "Jewish name", so yeah.) :P Sounds like you have a wonderfull family. Good for you! )
So the milk man had himself a ball, eh? )) Good story, loved it. Get this though, both Natasha and I have black hair and hazel eyes. Jasmine's eyes are blue/grey and her hair's very ligh brown. Pretty sure it wasn't the milk man though, as she was conceived via IVF. )))
Don't mention it, I do enjoy your works. And don't worry about the typos. It's all good. )

You know, I just read somewhere...that G-d only makes visible to us things He wants us to see, the rest is hidden from the eye (either forever or until due time)
Do you believe that? Do you believe in symbols around us?
