Мороз и солнце; день чудесный!
A frost, a sunlight mean a nice day!

Еще ты дремлешь, друг прелестный –
My charming girl, why you in dream stay?

Пора, красавица, проснись:

Открой сомкнуты негой взоры
Should open your still sleeping eyes and

Навстречу северной Авроры,
You'll meet Aurora like a star sent

Звездою севера явись!
By North as person from its staff!

Вечор, ты помнишь, вьюга злилась,
At night (remember?) blizzard’s madding,

На мутном небе мгла носилась;
That was in sky dim shadows carrying;

Луна, как бледное пятно,
The moon as an insipid glide

Сквозь тучи мрачные желтела,
Through gloomy clouds was showing yellow

И ты печальная сидела –
And you were there, my sorry fellow ,

А нынче..... погляди в окно:
But now…look you outside:

Под голубыми небесами
Under the blue sky like a marvel

Великолепными коврами,
Lies snow with a splendid cover

Блестя на солнце, снег лежит;
Both sky and snow shining are;

Прозрачный лес один чернеет,
The clear forest black is showing,

И ель сквозь иней зеленеет,
And spruce through hoarfrost green is turning,

И речка подо льдом блестит.
And river with its ice just's glare.

Вся комната янтарным блеском
The whole room is by amber luster

Озарена. Веселым треском
Illumed and with a lively chatter

Трещит затопленная печь.
Is crackling the ignited stove.

Приятно думать у лежанки.
How pleasant is to lie in idleness.

Но знаешь: не велеть ли в санки
But sure it would be a fineness

Кобылку бурую запречь?
To ride in sleigh with start right now!

Скользя по утреннему снегу,
And sliding on the morning snow,

Друг милый, предадимся бегу
My girlfriend, let together go

Нетерпеливого коня
With our fast impatient horse

И навестим поля пустые,
And let attend the empty meadows,

Леса, недавно столь густые,
The woods that lost their summer shadows

И берег, милый для меня.
And shore that sweet forever was.
