Letters

By Tom Abdulali (my pen-name)

So many fine days, so many letters,
When I recall the times that were better
When life wasn’t weighing like a heavy load
Upon my shoulders, posing hurdles on the road,
Those lines I wrote on plain sheets of paper,
Never caring what would happen later,
When you were here and life could shine
Like the brightest star on an undisturbed sky,
And my thoughts were idle and flew up high,
And in my letters to you there’s an awesome world
That’s long gone and forgotten, but not a single word
I would ever take back. Those words were true,
And after all these years nothing’s left but you.
