Mt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written. The Lord uses the sword of the Spirit in his reply. The word quoted, found in De 8:3, should be used in its connection, in order to comprehend its force. But by every word, etc. The meaning is: If it pleases God to sustain by other means than bread, it will be done. His word can be trusted. God fed Israel with manna, sent by his word, and we can trust his promises.

4:4 It is written - Thus Christ answered, and thus we may answer all the suggestions of the devil. By every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God - That is, by whatever God commands to sustain him. Therefore it is not needful I should work a miracle to procure bread, without any intimation of my Father's will. #Deut 8:3|.

Matthew 4:4
The first ever verse in the Bible that i memorised as a child in the primary school. I did not understand what the verse really mean. As i was growing old and older, the verse continues to have a deeper meaning to me:
The bread of life Jesus Christ, is the only meal that can supply, satisfy, and sustain man's physical and spiritual needs.Jesus was talking about himself in the verse.

An healthy man is one that feed on the words of God every. Our live is gurantee only by the words of God. Any other bread aside from the bread of life, JESUS, put out life out of balance. Prophet Isaiah says; he that he is thirsty, come buy water without money. The gateway to power is thirst for the word of God. Jesus was hungry for the words of God and not bread and that is why he said man shall not live by bread only, but by the word that comes out of the month of God.

In researching matt 4:4 I find myself reading and understanding this part (..by EVERY word that proceeds from the mouth of God) in this way..By THE word that proceeded out of the mouth of God (refering to Jeshua (Jesus). As a reference I use in the beginning was THE Word and THE word was with God and The Word was God and through Him (Jesus)all things were made. He is the Breath of God who gives life to man. Jesus was talking about himself not the bible. correct? or not?

Jesus was saying that we need to be hearers of his word and doers of his word. Jesus was telling us to follow him and do what he is saying in the word. I believe that Jesus was our example of how we must live, act, and talk. He was saying we need to live by what he says and what he did while here on earth. By example

Could this also mean that we as Christians today need to refer to the Old as well as the New Testament in our study of God’s word?
Lords body's comment on 2013-05-30 20:01:28:
He said: \"It is written:\" A reader should look to the Old Testament to discover what words came out of the mouth of God. God as the speaker is what is referred to.

the word of God is power that has the ability to manifest itself in so many dimensions including what ever man desire of in this world because john 1:1 everything was by him n through him including the food being spoken here.
