Streets

some streets are tall and shiny ones, called Central, Main or Palisades
with storefront windows glowing in floods of neon lights
but i like more the quiet ones, with rows of little houses
whose names are tender, neat and clam, they make me feel alright

i'll walk on Peachtree avenue, and turn around the Grapevine street
and on a Shady Grove boulevard i'll stand in quiet shades
Pear court and Cherry orchard pass, Greenleaf and Sunset Avenue
as if they call me back in time, to happy childhood years

and maybe on the Lilac drive, or maybe Chestnut avenue
and if not these, then surely somewhere on Pleasant Plains
when day is done and hope is gone, i'll meet my first and only love,
and all the night for her i will go out of my ways
