The Waves
They swell with the storm inside
And roll out splashing into the far distance.
Their rays
Travel not at the speed of sound –
Sound can only shock the earth beneath
Stronger than dynamite
But never uncover it;
Nor at the speed of light –
Light can only touch the mystique
Of celestial bodies
But never bring it closer;
But at the breathtaking speed
Of love…
Love alone has the momentum, the power
To rupture another heart,
To excite in it the return wave,
So the two waves – the two bloods – the two squalls –
Could meet inside the void between,
Penetrate, flood, pulse into one another
With the all-conquering strength –
Strength
Matched only by the strength of despair
Over the heart’s unattainable dream
As it throws up the tsunami-high waves
Powerful enough to make all other hearts reply –
All, except yours.
