The Letter
He held the letter in his beak.
He carried the letter to a person
Who'd waited for twenty weeks.
The dove didn't stop flapping.
The dove flew for many days
When the sun or the moon shone,
When he saw green forests and grass.
One day the dove was over the town.
And then he took a blow and felt pain.
A boy who played with a friend
Threw a stone at him and ran.
The bird fell to the ground and died.
The letter left in the beak.
The letter's lost, the dove is dead and gone.
The one who needed it keeps waiting on.
