Fort Ross

The waves rolling slowly by the rocky tide
The pelicans drifting in the streams of wind
Pussy ears hiding in the bushy grass
And this old new fortress on the cliff edge
With cannons used only for greetings
With guests from far away and children of these grounds
Once living peacefully side by side
With beautiful love legend of the one who waited all her life
For the one that closed his eyes forever on stranger tides
With the kids of today and tomorrow playing with the past
And the scientists with fire in their eyes exploring its every inch
And the people coming there to weave their hands and lives
Where centennial redwoods dig their roots into the sunburnt ground
This is Fort Ross, a place, a space, a legend
Here it stands, and let it stand and tell us stories, for now and for ever.
