Dinah Washington

August 29th – Dinah Washington’s birthday.  In 2012 it has been 88 years since she was born.


Dinah Washington – a jazz, R&B, pop legend, the Queen of the Blues.
Discovered, enhanced and expanded her talents putting them to use.
Her versatility included singing as well as playing piano for the choir.
Dinah did not hesitate, dared to succeed in her attempt to fame acquire.

She was absolutely lovable by friends, fans, colleagues and professionals.
Her voice and diction were incomparable, refined, unique and sensational.
The timing was just right, articulation flawless, style individualistic, rare.
Dinah had fallen in love with music, which had become her life long affair.

Washington was a superb band singer and phenomenal, true singer-soloist,
Although contributing, according to the critics, to a controversy or a twist.
She chose not to pursue soul music, but integrate jazz, novelty, pop, R&B.
Dinah had known what she wanted and whom she chose to become or be.

When having to perform, she blended talent, skill and spectrum of emotions.
Dinah was vigorous, courageous, confident, committed, daring Vs cautious.
She entertained her audience with passion, motivation, purpose and flavor.
Dinah succeeded when pursuing every one of her professional endeavor.

Dinah, an individual, was generous, kind, loving, caring and understanding.
She helped her family and starting out singers, to whom she was attending.
They all looked up to her charged with much warmth, strength, mission, goal.
Dinah possessed an extraordinary talent, strong will and gentle heart and soul.

While gaining recognition, stardom, Dinah had doubted herself, was insecure.
As she continued to professionally expand, Dinah had searched for inner cure.
She had experimented in life with using alcohol together with prescription drugs.
Dinah was only 39 when disappearing from our Universe or planet in disguise.

Today’s is Dinah’s birthday - let’s think of her in our spirit, heart, soul, mind,
Allowing to revive her legacy and of her talents the new generation to remind.
Dinah - one of the brightest stars in jazz, blues, R&B, pop era that still shines.
Washington’s novelty and vocal versatility were boundless and of a giant size.
