A Klutz

I stride with purpose down the hall
My speed with every step increasing
I turn a corner and collide
With something solid…warm…and breathing

Two people, books and lots of papers
A human heap on concrete floor
I look up and I am trapped
By a sun-lit sapphire lure

I stare with struck, wide-eyed expression
My brown eyes about to pop
I feel like a deer in the headlights
You say I look more like a pup

My cheeks then’re flooded with deep crimson
Blush spreading fast across my skin
As, with a start, I realize
I didn't keep my thought-train in

The world slows down to a halt
And I hang in there suspended
Then something clicks and it's like home
After so long of feeling stranded

I stumbled slowly through my life
Earning one too many scars
Until I crushed and fell for you
What can I tell you I'm a klutz
