I Will Remain

The stars are pale in the sky,
The darkness is about to die;
The moon above is on the wane,
It soon will go – and I’ll remain.

My dream’s dispelling in my mind,
And now its trace is hard to find:
The friendly wood, the drowsy lane
Will disappear – and I’ll remain.

And now my friend is leaving me,
His kind face I will never see;
We’re standing silent in the rain,
And he will go – and I’ll remain.

All in the world will pass away:
This autumn rain, the gaudy May,
And everything I see or gain,
My body – too… But I’ll remain.
