     GONE  IS  THE  NIGHT

The hidden cougar, the dawn, stalks the night
with readiness to pounce in silent ambush.
The darkness slowly surrenders to the light.
The stars, too, grow dim and soon quite vanish.

Night wanes, and day awakens with a yawn,
and love’s mirage begins to fade away,
laid bare of the harsh light of the day,
and love’s charms disappear, betrayed by dawn.

The traitor-light from windows and door
destroys night dreams which were as sweet as honey.
Gone is the night… No difference anymore,
if the new day be cloudy or sunny.

       НОЧЬ  ПОЗАДИ         

Рассвет крадётся рысью в тишине,
на ночь готовясь прыгнуть из засады.
Сереет непроглядный мрак в окне,
и звёзд не видно. Их уже не надо.

Сникает ночь. Зевая, день встаёт.
Мираж любви теряет очертанья.
Любовь на свет выходит из-под тайны
и вдруг любовью быть перестаёт.

Предатель-свет впускает мир в окно,
разрушив ночь любви и дрёмы сладкой.
Ночь позади. Теперь уж всё равно:
ненастный день наступит или яркий.
