The poet must admit that it would be a crime
For her to write a plain congratulation
And not to write at least one single rhyme –
Her conscience won’t be clear, and that’s the explanation
For writing this enormous poem, that’s supposed
To be a modest gift for one tremendous fellow,
Whose birthday is today. I hope he won’t oppose
This present coloured red, blue, green and yellow!
Well, Lex, enjoy yourself today, at least because
All birthdays should be something to remember
In frosty winter evenings of December
And at the height of summer days, of course!
No matter when one celebrates this day:
Whether it’s Monday, Saturday or Thursday…
There’s only one thing left for me to say:
Best wishes to you, Lex, and Happy Birthday!
P.S. If drunk, you won’t decide the human fate, so, please,
Don’t drink too much today!
