Chernobyl Days
Not scared at all by the usual scene
That spring the sun was bright, the wind was strong
The danger was coming but it couldn't be seen.
If nothing could be seen and nothing felt
Might try to feel safe 'cause TV said you are.
You didn't know that radiation fell,
You thought that Chernobyl's explosion was far.
Whose ignorance was the factor
When buttons were pushed before
They blew up the reactor
Chernobyl's reactor, number four?
The men who were the first to face the clear death are now dead.
They took their part of radiation to their coffins made of lead.
The answers then were blowing in the wind,
If anyone asked any questions at all.
The sober people could repent their sins,
The funny ones tried to liqueur their souls.
Our city beach has a new regulation:
One hour we sunbathe, one hour - decontamination!
It's clean outside, clean indoors,
Thank you, reactor, number four!
Radioactive food was in excess.
All fruits were cheap, plane tickets were not.
Train stations in one day became a mess.
The poison was washed from the streets with the soap.
All children were sent away
From the radioactive heat.
Adults, those who had to stay,
Kept trying to make the best out of it.
Those were the best days of my life.
We walked along clean empty streets.
We made love, young and drunk.
The city had no problems and no kids.
The future can be seen in many ways,
While empty Chernobyl stays intact as a ghost.
In fifty thousand years it'll be OK,
The contamination will be gone at no cost.
No view could be ever stranger
Than that of Chernobyl's scene.
If you can not see the danger,
Is there anything at all you can see?
