I may be mistaken,
it may be misleading,
don’t view the beginning
and can’t see the close –
I’m happy
not to have had those meetings
with farewell kisses
in front of the house.
I’m happy
to have lived so silently, frankly,
so simply and strictly,
so gently and hard;
and watched smoky skies
be crawling on blankly;
and breathed fragrant scents
from the pied autumn heart.
I’m happy
to be a part
of word-of-mouth stories
retold by a jay-bird all over the shore.
And I didn’t tell you
that I’d keep a promise.
And you didn’t venture those days
to ask for.
Those comfortless days seem lovely at present.
I cannot feel sad because of that way.
One cannot ask for
or promise a present,
One carries his present
and gives it away.
