30 Pieces Of Silver
“30 Pieces Of Silver”. Composition by Cornelia Parker in the New Tate Gallery, London
Thirty old and round silver trays
Hanged by a thousand translucent threads
From a ceiling so high, they almost caress the floor
They make an even surface, covered with worn pieces of silver
Once used for fine decorating and servicing
My eye follows those once beautiful then cutleries
Candelabras and tongs, salt-and-pepper cans
And all little objects that made and still could make
Some lives being lit up and lifted
Instead all things lay lonely and bare
One designer searched for them for years
Wondering thorough a thousand junk shops
So that one day she could complete her masterpiece
Made of thrown away old wedding presents…
Broken hearts I see now. Hanged from the top of the sky.
