Romantic love is not about an action
nor its satisfaction,
but about its prolongation –
the art developed by geishas.
They kept their men
at a distance,
putting in every instance
a sense of languor –
like it’s done in tango.
Or by troubadours and
chivalric knights,
singing all nights
their songs of devotion
to the ladies – with caution.
Forbidden nature of romance
and their yearning at once
made it a singular source
of their personal worth.
Their healthy reaction
to the strict catholicism
became a frustrated cataclysm.
