Enamoured of Shakespeare

You love Shakespeare and you do not think
Of your household, your family, your kin.
You don't remember any other face
Except your lover's! And your life has place
Only for poetry, for high romantic sense.
Your heart is beating, your soul's so tense!..
But here is one very grievous trait:
The call of duty doesn't like to wait...
The play is ended and the ship is launched,
The sea-water's taken present-ouch...
Blue waves are laughing whispering your lay...
You can not stay! It is the time to pay...

The call of duty doesn't like to wait...
I must do chores before I can translate:
Run to a store to stock on staple foods,
Stop by the cobbler to pick up my boots,
Pick up dry cleaning, and the kids from school,
And drop them off for lessons at the pool.
While they perfect their butterfly and crawl
I absolutely have no time to stall:
I rush back home reciting recipe
(Be sure the menu and the tastes agree)
While dinner’s cooking it’s no time to slouch,
And dawdle with Shakespeare on a couch.
I dash back to the pool to get the kids
And not be late a minute, God forbids!
When dinner’s eaten, dishes in the sink
Pile high with scraps of food that start to stink.
Dishwasher’s loaded, the scraps are in compost
Guess what? It’s time to check the post.
On and on until I crawl to bed
And fall asleep with sonnets left unread.
