The world according to Evie

(aged almost 3)

Evie thinks I come from Russia.
Spinning the globe, she points to Siberia.
'There. Russia. Bushka will go
back there, where she comes from.'

Evie says the cat that visits
when I visit is my cat, from Russia also,
and she tells her mum: 'At home in Russia,
Bushka feeds her kitties from her titties.
Because they are her babies,' she adds sagely,
with a knowing nod.

I make Evie a picture
with a pomegranate tree,
thirty-three ripe pomegranates
and a glossy, silky turkey
waiting underneath to peck
stray garnet seeds from fallen fruit.

When Evie sleeps, I wonder,
does she ever dream of grenadines?

A dream of grenadines creates so multiple associations like a surrealism
painting.
A wonderful world of Evie!

Thank you for your comment. Yes, manifold connotations attend the pomegranate. For me, it is the most evocative of fruit...

Best wishes,
