It is important, before a journey,
to take the time for this simple grace:
to stand at the open back door, and gaze
at the delicate frosting of dew on grass,
and hear the spring calls of a family of birds,
and check for fresh buds on the elms' bare limbs,
and inhale the morning unfurling
under ever more confident saffron rays.
Before the journey begins, it is fitting
to welcome the incoming day...
