I traveled around the USA
I smelled that freedom smoke.
Wild geese revived my dusky days,
And hearts were wide unlocked.
And hands were open in salute,
In any rusty shop.
I traveled around the USA,
I traveled among the folk.
I didn’t care to choose my tone,
Just smile and say hello!
Deep grief – black granites. Arlington.
My heart was beating slow.
Five star hotels and Harlem junk.
False diamonds, real stars.
I traveled around the USA,
I traveled through the past.
