My translation from Nikoliy Yazykov. 1803-1846
Is blissful he, who could in holy night,
On bridal bed, to round you by tender hands:
The brows to brows, and eyes to eyes,
The lips in lips and chest to chest!
Who your seductive, very tender babble
By passionate kissing interrupt,
And dark-complexioned breast, yours, baby,
Was trembling wild, waken up!
But that is blissful, my night virgin,
When, in the rapture of sweet love,
I see this fire in your eyes,
Eyebrows marvel, wonder, nice!
I look at freshness of red lips,
At curls' blackness, I'll miss...
I have forgotten my stormy heart,
The strength of youth is fallen apart!

Nikolay Yazykov (1803-1845) was, after Pushkin and Baratynsky,
the third major poet of the Golden Age. His verse, much of it
concerned with nature and the rhysical pleasures of life, has
a verbal brilliance and sustained rhythm that are impressive.
