I serve to English sonnet s perfect form

I serve to English sonnet's perfect form,
I can't accept another form of wording;
Let me appraise it in my modest skill,
The elegant and so demanding sonnet.

It's so well-balanc'd, chiselled, precise,
That some consider it as outdated,
Indeed, it's tough - and yet so evergreen
That bare truth and beauty have it chosen.

Its shortness and complexity, combined,
Take all the power of the exhausted writer,
And finally, it generously endowes
With dignity that is consise and rare.

I do believe I can't betray this form,
It has what I in poetry adore.
