In her hand a small blue pail,
in the pail a wee white shell;
on the sand, child's footprints
like a little bear's are visible.
Her eyes, translucent as the sky and sea,
shine with discovery.
The beach lies vast before her
under heaven's awesome azure arc,
and on the waves the sun plays tag
with infant stars like tiny sparks ...
