The concert in the audience

Members of the orchestra
pack away their instruments,
their duty done,
the miracle performed,
their forces all but spent;

members of the audience
surge through the foyer
to the street, suspended
in the frequencies of music's
nerves and ligaments.

Players and communicants
disperse across the half-lit city,
chords attenuate to far-flung
gardens, houses and apartments,
filaments still lingering invisibly
within their frames,
composer, instruments, conductor,
players in star-haunted space...
