Rocking-horse lullaby
snug in your cot,
when the wind blows
your cradle will rock,
sleep is a lady
on a white horse
riding through starlight
to Banbury Cross.
Rockabye baby
warm in your fleece,
guardian angels
lull you to sleep,
the lamp of the moon
splashes gold on the sea,
when the wind blows
the breakers will course.
Hushabye baby,
Sandman is coming,
you can hear heartbeats,
hoofbeats and humming,
dreams are approaching
on a red pony,
bridled with stardust
for you and you only.
Rockabye baby,
slumber is sweet,
while the wind whispers
tales of the street;
as the Earth turns
I shall stay by your side
till morning arrives
like a ship on the tide.
When the sun rises
with gold reins and bridle
you'll ride on your pony
to Banbury Cross.

Note: This lullaby is an
extended variation on a very
popular English traditional
nursery rhyme:
Ride a cock-horse
to Banbury Cross,
to see a fine lady
on a white horse.
With rings on her fingers
and bells on her toes,
she shall have music
wherever she goes.
