Tiny iridescent beetle

As I drift through afternoon
along a pavement drenched in sun,
a bug, an iridescent gem
transits dust with rapid tread.

It climbs aboard my proffered wrist,
a mite upon a zeppelin,
whisked from harm's way
to the labyrinthine haven of a hedge.

Viridian and peacock blue with three
dots of vermilion, it nestles into foliage,
a microscopic, gorgeous speck -
the universe writ minuscule, made perfect...
