The eastern sky a void
in which Earth's azure shadow
rises, sheer,
and where the Moon
will soon appear:
sublimely luminous idea…

Group of girls
in evening dress,
cloudy lilacs
in their hair,
limbs shimmering
in perfumed mist -
tulle-and-moonstone,
amethyst -
these trees,
when withered
petals fall,
are capable
of holding out,
expressing
their tenacity,
to weather thirst
in time of drought…
*
On cable strung
from pole to pole,
possums take
their evening stroll;
at dawn, they lunge
from pole to wall -
trapeze artists
who seldom fall…
*
Waning wafer,
rainless moon;
two tricolor
hot-air balloons;
parched trees
gestating
secret blooms;
first migrating
birds returning…
*
Where yesterday's cat,
striped with sun,
stalked small iguanas
grey as stone,
I cast a blossom
on the stream
for new life-cycles
just begun...
