Twenty thousand years from now
the place-names may not signify -
by then they may have changed
a hundred times:
(Where is Atlantis now?
Engulfed by verdigris…
Australia's primal memory?
Erased in just two centuries…)
The vanity of ownership
dissolves like tears in brine,
but acts of valour
claim their place in time,
and on the navigation charts
of human consciousness,
like blips of light on radar screens
or photons in the lunar night,
the deeds of the Kalymnians
are archived in spiritus mundi,
feats of early cosmonauts
inscribe the interstellar void…
Twenty thousand years from now...
