They say there is a hill no birds are singing there.

They say one day some guns are walking near there
and followed their hounds to fetch a birdie’s hood.
And say they between them was one who killed so tuneful
that everyone became dumb, silent, breaking off.
Yet spider, people say, has woven net obscure.
Oh sorrow, oh green hill give back them truthful voice!
Десь, кажуть, є гора, де не співають птиці.
О горе тій горі, і горе тим лісам!
Десь, кажуть, там колись проходили мисливці
і пташку принести казали своїм псам.
І кажуть, що один убив таку співучу,
що заніміли всі, і змовкли ті ліси.
І, кажуть, лиш павук снує там сіть павучу.
О горе, о гора, віддай їм голоси!
