Fade

You slowly open your eyes
Look around your surroundings.
Flashbacks of your screaming cries,
Fills your mind and your head starts pounding.

Could it be true, was it really real?
You close your eyes to the pain.
They're gone now and how do you feel?
This pain you have will never fade.

Your mind roams back, to the last time you saw them.
You were angry at them, they had told you what to do.
Eyes filled with angry tears, your love had grown slim.
You didn't know what would happen, so you screamed through.

"I hate you! You're ruining my life! Don't you care?"
They just smiled sadly, hating to see you mad.
They were always around for you, always there.
You never knew what you were lucky for, what you had.

But now its too late, anger had finally broken through.
You screamed the most horrible things when they left.
You didn't care, you wanted them gone, forever, too.
Later however, that would be the one thing you wouldn't accept.

You wake in the middle of the night to the phone ringing.
You answer the phone, a saddened professional voice on the line.
He tells you that they were in an accident, a car crash, sadly meaning.
You go numb, then quickly race to the hospital, will you make it in time?

You race through the lanes, finally arriving, then race through the halls.
The nurse tells you were they are, in Intensive Care, as you run there.
You see their faces, smiling sadly at you, before one's head softly falls.
The other one winks at you painfully, the way he always used to, before having a blank stare.

Your heart skips a beat, a sudden aching inside, you fall backwards, and cry.
You scream out pain-filled words, screaming for them to come back.
They aren't there, and the last thing you'd said was that you wished they would die.
You realize what you had done, and you feel it like a hard slap.

"They loved you unconditionally until the end... And they wanted you to know.
The last thing they both said was 'Tell our children that we love them.. forever...'"
The nurse sadly told you, as your tears continue their eternal, burning flow.
Their pain-filled faces and their sad smiles echo in your mind, only to stop never.

The last thing you said, how could you have said it? Who could have known?
"I wish you would DIE... I wish you would DIE" you hear, sitting on the bed you made.
Bury your face into your hands now, cry yourself to sleep feeling so achingly alone.
You said those things, and they're gone now, and the pain... Will never fade.

So much pain... Such moving sincerity...
The poem is perfect.
