Wild Pear Tree

Spring Comes to the Island

I return to be
with the wild pear tree
besieged by pirate winds -
a young, strong woman
wearing a white wreath
of blossom, a mountain bride.

I come as a guest
attends a wedding,
witnessing vows renewed
each spring. She will remain
in thorns and green, to bear
her fruit on the mountainside.
